I was stuck in job I didn’t enjoy and ready to throw the towel in on dentistry after just 18 months. It was only my student loans that prevented me from doing so. I signed up to advanced dentistry thinking that held the answers. It had some but not all. I was inspired, I converted my NHS list to private list of plan and fee per item patients. I enjoyed the dentistry yet was still unhappy and struggling in a disorganised, unsupportive practice. Determined to have better, I bounced from interview to interview trying to find the perfect job. I became depressed and conventional therapy seemed to make the problem worse..
It was only when I discovered the magic of working with a coach and started thinking like the owner of my self-employed business – while still an associate dentist – that I perfected the art of communicating exciting dentistry and helping my patients make the best choices. So, finally, I could make a good living from it.
I learned how to manage my appointment book and develop faster, more effective work processes with my nurse. I realised it was not just about treating patients. I focused on the non-chargeable tasks too, like marketing and finances. I learned how to deliver exceptional customer service and get the perfect work-life balance, on a 3-day week earning as if I was working 5.
Finally, I knew where I wanted my career to go, and with a coach, I could make it happen.
I set up the Institute of Dental Business (IODB) and became a Master Certified Coach – so you can stop feeling stuck and enjoy success too – whatever your vision for your dental career.
